1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, 5 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.”
God now moves from the design of the worship tabernacle to the construction phase. He tells Moses that He has picked out several people by name to do specific work. Here He says that He has picked out Bezalel and He has filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, knowledge and specific artistic abilities. Bezalel is to work in gold and silver, jewel cutting and wood carving. This is quite a wide range of skills and talents. God has given Bezalel these special skills for the work of building God’s tabernacle. Bezalel was not a master craftsman at birth. He had to learn and practice and work to become a master craftsman.
This is such a great image for us today. God calls each of us by name, as unique individuals. He gives us wisdom, understand and knowledge for a specific task. There qualities are the foundation of a path for us. Just like Bezalel, we have to build on this foundation and increase our understanding and knowledge. We have to work. As our understanding and knowledge grow, our experience grows, and wisdom comes.
Bezalel made a huge impact on the tabernacle. He could step back during a worship service and say, “I made that.” So it is with us with some of the work we do. We can step back and say, “I made that.”
God has work for you to do today. The area that you work in today may not be the same in years to come. Like Bezalel with gold or jewels or wood, you too can grow and expand. God is growing in you great skills and talents.
Just like Bezalel, God is calling you by name. He has areas of work for you. Do you know what God is calling you to do? If not, why don’t you ask Him?
